Biket Commission Structure & Eligibility Rules
Biket Commission Structure & Eligibility Rules
Version 1 — Effective 5 January 2026
Creating the customer experience earns the commission — scanning the transaction does not.
This document explains how monthly commission is calculated, accelerated, adjusted and paid. It applies together with the Biket Staff Handbook, the employee's employment terms and any written monthly targets issued by management. Targets may change according to the month, trading conditions and operational requirements.
1. Monthly Target Channels
Biket sets targets for three business channels:
- Point of Sale (POS): qualifying in-store retail sales.
- Hub / Workshop: qualifying workshop revenue.
- Online Store: qualifying online-store sales.
Management will communicate the applicable targets for each commission month. Each employee's individual commission is calculated against the qualifying sales and target allocated to that employee or role.
2. Individual Target and Base Commission Ladder
Each commission-earning employee is allocated an individual share of the relevant channel target. Commission is based on that employee's achievement against their own allocated target—not simply on whether the total channel target was achieved.
For example, if the monthly POS target is R1,000,000 and two sales employees are each allocated R500,000, each employee is measured against their own R500,000 target.
The commission rate is applied to the employee's actual qualifying sales using the following brackets:
- Below 50% of individual target: no commission.
- 50%–59.99%: 0.5% commission.
- 60%–69.99%: 0.6% commission.
- 70%–79.99%: 0.7% commission.
- 80%–89.99%: 0.8% commission.
- 90%–99.99%: 0.9% commission.
- 100%–109.99%: 1.0% commission.
The employee moves to the next rate only when the next full bracket is reached. For example, 85% earns 0.8%, 95% earns 0.9%, and 99% still earns 0.9%.
Base commission = actual qualifying sales × applicable commission rate.
Example: Against a R500,000 individual target, R450,000 is 90% achievement and earns 0.9%; R500,000 is 100% achievement and earns 1.0%.
3. All-Channel Team Accelerator
The accelerator is designed to reward teamwork and prevent an employee from disengaging after reaching their own target. Employees who have capacity are expected to help other parts of Biket succeed—for example, assisting the workshop when it is under pressure, supporting the retail floor, helping with online orders, preparing bicycles, following up customers or completing other useful cross-channel work.
The accelerator is an all-or-nothing team result. It applies only when both of the following conditions are met:
- Every commission-earning employee achieves at least 100% of their allocated individual target; and
- All three channels—POS, Hub / Workshop and Online Store each achieve at least 100% of their respective monthly target.
If even one commission-earning employee misses their individual target, or if even one channel misses its target, the accelerator does not apply to anyone for that month. There is no partial accelerator and no exception based on one or two employees or channels having achieved target.
Without the accelerator, every employee's commission rate is capped at 1.0%, even where an individual employee exceeds their own target.
Only when every employee and every channel reaches target does the team accelerator unlock the higher commission ladder:
- 100%–109.99% of individual target: 1.3% commission.
- 110%–119.99% of individual target: 1.4% commission.
- 120% or more of individual target: 1.5% commission.
The accelerated rate is applied to the employee's actual qualifying sales and is capped at 1.5%.
The principle is simple: reaching your own target unlocks 1.0%. The accelerator unlocks only when everyone hits their individual target and every channel hits its target. If one misses, nobody receives the accelerator.
4. Qualifying Sales
The following transactions count toward targets and commission:
- Normal customer purchases at Biket's advertised selling price.
- Customer purchases at authorised, advertised promotional or clearance prices.
The following transactions do not count:
- Staff purchases.
- Purchases for friends, family or third parties using a staff discount.
- Transactions with a special or discretionary discount outside Biket's advertised selling price or an authorised advertised promotion.
- Internal transactions, stock movements, reversals, refunds, cancelled transactions and other non-qualifying transactions.
Returns, refunds, cancellations, credit notes and corrections may be removed from qualifying sales before commission is finalised or corrected in a later commission calculation where they are identified afterwards.
5. Gross Profit & Pricing Integrity
Sales targets and commission must be achieved while maintaining the required gross-profit standard established through Trek pricing and Biket's approved pricing structure. Revenue generated by sacrificing the required margin is not acceptable target achievement.
- Employees may not discount products merely to close transactions, inflate sales totals, reach a target or increase commission.
- Only discounts, advertised sales, clearance pricing or promotional offers expressly set or approved by management may be offered.
- Staff may not create their own promotions, promise unauthorised discounts, alter selling prices or use discretionary price reductions without prior management approval.
- A manual price override or exceptional discount requires clear management approval before the transaction is completed.
- Transactions that do not maintain the required gross profit, or that include an unauthorised discount, may be excluded from targets and commission calculations.
- Deliberately discounting or manipulating pricing to obtain target credit or commission may be investigated as misconduct and commission manipulation.
Targets must be achieved through proper selling, service and customer value—not by giving away Biket's gross profit.
6. Sales Ownership
The salesperson who creates the customer experience and meaningfully assists the customer owns the sale, and that employee's sales code must be used.
- Engagement includes greeting the customer, identifying needs, providing advice, assisting with sizing or compatibility, showing products, answering questions, preparing a quotation or continuing an existing sales enquiry.
- Scanning items, accepting payment or entering a POS code does not by itself create ownership of a sale.
- If one employee assisted the customer and another merely processes payment, the assisting employee's code must be used.
- Knowingly claiming another employee's sale or manipulating sales codes may be investigated as misconduct.
7. Monthly Performance Requirements
The following requirements support Biket's sales, stock accuracy, product knowledge and cycling culture:
- Trek University: the employee must have at least 3,000 Trek U points on the commission payment date.
- Shop rides: required shop rides take place weekly. Commission-earning staff must complete the required weekly shop-ride participation for the month, subject to any management-approved exception.
- Cycle counts / stock takes: the employee must complete all assigned monthly stock takes and cycle-count responsibilities accurately and by the required deadline.
8. Commission Adjustments for Missed Requirements
Missing a performance requirement does not automatically reduce commission to zero. Instead, each missed requirement category results in a 10% reduction of the total commission calculated for that month:
- Below 3,000 Trek U points on the commission payment date: 10% reduction.
- Required weekly shop-ride participation not completed for the month without an approved exception: 10% reduction.
- Assigned monthly cycle counts / stock takes not completed accurately and on time: 10% reduction.
These adjustments are cumulative. If one category is missed, 90% of the calculated commission remains payable; if two are missed, 80% remains payable; if all three are missed, 70% remains payable.
These are adjustments to the conditional commission calculation under this scheme. They are not deductions from basic salary. Management will verify completion records before commission is finalised and will consider approved leave, incapacity or another documented exception where appropriate.
9. Worked Examples
Example A — 90% achievement, no accelerator:
An employee has R900,000 in qualifying sales against a R1,000,000 target. The rate is 0.9%. Gross commission is R8,100. If all requirements are completed, R8,100 is payable.
Example B — 120% achievement with accelerator:
An employee has R1,200,000 in qualifying sales against a R1,000,000 individual target. Without all three channels reaching target, the rate would remain capped at 1.0%. If every commission-earning employee reaches their individual target and POS, Hub / Workshop and Online Store all reach target, the team accelerator unlocks the 1.5% rate. Gross commission is then R18,000.
Example C — two missed requirements:
If gross commission is R18,000 and the employee misses the Trek U and shop-ride requirements, two 10% adjustments apply. The payable commission is 80% of R18,000, which is R14,400.
10. Calculation and Payment Timing
Commission is calculated after the relevant calendar month has ended and the month's sales, returns, channel results and performance requirements have been verified.
For example, July commission is calculated after July closes and is then added to the employee's August salary. Commission will appear separately on the employee's payslip and will be subject to the payroll treatment and statutory deductions required by law.
Commission is not final until Biket has completed the monthly verification. Any genuine calculation or allocation error may be corrected, with the employee given a reasonable explanation of the correction.
11. Administration and Fair Application
- Employees are responsible for ensuring that sales are allocated to the correct sales code and that required activities are recorded.
- Management may request supporting records for sales ownership, shop rides, Trek U points and completed stock counts.
- Disputes about a calculation or sale allocation should be raised promptly and before payroll is finalised where reasonably possible.
- The scheme will be applied consistently, subject to documented targets, verified results and reasonable management review.
- Biket may prospectively amend targets or commission rules by communicating the change in writing before the affected commission period, subject to applicable employment terms and law.
